BILASPUR (CG): The Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha of High Court of Chhattisgarh raised concern over a larger number of prisoners than its capacity.
During a surprise inspection of Central Jail Bilaspur, Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha found that the capacity of Central Jail Bilaspur is 2,290 prisoners. Currently, the jail is holding 3,153 prisoners, out of which 2,946 are males and 207 are females.
Justice Ramesh Singh asked the Jail Superintendent, Central Jail, Bilaspur, to prepare a list of under trial prisoners for minor crimes.
He sought status of the legal services being provided to the prisoners, He called for providing the prisoners actual knowledge of the law in simple language so that their lives improve in the future. They do not turn towards crime.
Justice Sinha also inspected the men's and women's prisons and enquired about basic facilities and arrangements, like health, treatment, and medicines.
He also asked about women prisoners living in jail with children about facilities related to education, sports, and health for their children. He called to make the necessary improvements.
