Chhattisgarh’s first Chief Justice W. A. Shishak dies in Imphal

RAIPUR: First Chief Justice of Chhattisgarh High Court W. A. Shishak passed away on Friday at Imphal. Chief Justice of High Court Ramesh Sinha, Justices, Additional Advocate General Raghavendra Pradhan, representative of Chhattisgarh State Legal Council Prafulla N, Deputy Solicitor General Ramakant Mishra, President of the High Court Advocates Association Abdul Wahab Khan, Advocates and Registrar General along with all the officers of the registry were paid tributes.

Chief Justice W. A. Shishack was 82. He was born on January 01, 1941 in a tribal village in Ukhrul district of Manipur. After graduating in 1963, he did LLB from Delhi University. Started practicing law in 1967 after passing the examination. He was proficient in constitutional and administrative matters. He was working as Senior Government Advocate of the Government of Nagaland and was also the President of the Nagaland Advocates Association.

His first appointment as a judge was in the Kohima Bench of Gauhati High Court on January 02, 1989, then on December 04, 2000 he was appointed as the first Chief Justice of Chhattisgarh High Court, Bilaspur and on January 24, 2002, Himachal Pradesh High Court Transferred as Chief Justice. Shishack has the distinction of being the first judge and chief justice of the Naga tribe community of the country.
