RAIPUR: On 12th and 13th October 2023, the Faculty of Pharmacy at Kalinga University in collaboration with the IQAC Department and Danteshwari College of Pharmacy, Jagdalpur, organized a comprehensive two-day workshop on "Hands-on Training in Animal Experimentation Basic to Advancements in Experimental Animal Research". The session was led by Dr. Sandip Prasad Tiwari, Principal, Faculty of Pharmacy, who emphasized the need for ethical practices in animal experimentation and research.

Dr. R. Shridhar, Vice Chancellor of Kalinga University, graced the event as the guest of honour, and the workshop was launched with great excitement. Dr. Trilochan Satapathy, Professor (Head of Department), Columbia Institute of Pharmacy, Dr. Vinod Tiwari, Associate Professor, Indian Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, and Dr. T. Pugazhenthan, Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmacology, AIIMS, Raipur were invited as the Speakers and Trainers for the workshop.

Over 70 participants attended the workshop from various educational institutions, including JNM Medical College, Raipur, C V Raman University, Bilaspur, Columbia Institute of Pharmacy, Raipur, and Bharti University, Raipur.

Ms. Rajni Yadav, Mr. Satish Siripini, and Ms. Jayshri Swarnkar from the Pharmacy Department effectively organized the session, ensuring a smooth and efficient learning experience. Hands-on training in handling laboratory animals, particularly rats and rabbits, was provided to participants, with an emphasis on ethical practices. Various techniques were exhibited, including animal feeding, maintenance, and caging.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Ms. Rajni Yadav by acknowledging the contributions of the speakers, trainers and coordinators, and was presided over by certificate distribution.

The workshop emphasized the need of ethical handling of animals in research, underscoring the importance of following rules and best practices in animal experimentation. Such initiatives are vital in advancing animal research while also assuring the humane and responsible treatment of laboratory animals.
