CG NEWS: Take special care of eyes during Diwali

RAIPUR: The Health and Family Welfare Department, Government of Chhattisgarh has issued an advisory on Friday to take care of eyes while burning fireworks by the children and adults.

It states that special care has to be taken for children as they are likely to burn their hands. In case of burns, it needs to be treated immediately. There are two types of burns, one is superficial, which forms blisters while the other is deep burn where the burn part of the body becomes numb.

The burn which is superficial can be kept under running water until the burning sensation subsides. This will not only reduce pain but will also prevent blisters. If it persists, then doctors advice be taken.

Keep the burnt area in cold water for 15 minutes or until the burning sensation stops. If it is difficult to get the injured area under water, soak a clean, soft cloth in cool water and place it over the burnt area, but do not rub. It will help in releasing the heat from the body tissues. Doing it will prevent further damage and will also reduce the pain.

Similarly, the care of eyes should be taken. Always burn firecrackers in an open field or open space. Keep clean water available in the place where crackers are burnt and keep it covered. Do not burst crackers on the road while people are coming and going.

After touching firecrackers, do not touch your eyes with the same hand, as there is a risk of chemicals getting into the eyes. If there is irritation or itching in the eyes, do not rub them, immediately clean your hands and wash the eyes with clean water.

For any type of emergency eye treatment, 24-hour medical facilities will be available at Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Hospital and AIIMS Raipur.
