Chhattisgarh to go for delimitation of wards in urban bodies

* Emphasis on equal distribution of population in all wards

RAIPUR,CG: The Urban Administration and Development Department, Government of Chhattisgarh has given instructions for fresh delimitation of wards in all the urban bodies in view of the general elections in the coming November-December 2024.

Dr. Basavaraju S., Secretary, Urban Administration and Development Department has issued a circular to all the district collectors. Giving top priority to the delimitation work, he has given instructions to complete the process as soon as possible.

The circular issued by the Urban Administration Department to the collectors, it has been said that the general elections for the urban bodies of the state are to be held in the month of November-December this year 2024.

According to Chhattisgarh Municipal Corporation Act-1956 and Chhattisgarh Municipal Corporation Act-1961, wards in urban bodies are to be composed in such a way that the population of each ward is as uniform as possible in the entire body area and the area included in the ward is a compact area. Population related data of Census-2011 has been published by the Census Directorate. Keeping in view the increase in the population of each ward, it has become necessary to delimit the wards afresh.

Referring to the instructions of Chhattisgarh State Election Commission, the department has instructed the collectors to complete the process of delimitation of wards of urban bodies as soon as possible. The work has been asked to be given top priority, so that the general elections can be conducted within the stipulated time by preparing voter lists etc.

The state government has asked all the collectors to complete the process of delimitation of wards of the local bodies in their respective districts as per the Chhattisgarh Municipality (Expansion of Wards) Rules-1994 and send the proposal to the department as soon as possible, so that the publication of the notification can be published in the Gazette.

In the proposal related to delimitation, instructions have been given to include the boundaries of the four directions of the proposed wards and a map in which the four directions of each proposed ward should be shown in such a way that the boundaries of each ward are clearly visible.

The population related sheet in the proposal contains the total population of the municipality area as per the published data of the last census, the total population of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, the total number of wards determined by the state government for the concerned municipality area and on the basis of this, the division of each ward. d Instructions have been given to include the draft of the final notification regarding ward division in the proposal regarding delimitation.
