Chhattisgarh girls enter semi-final in Junior Hockey

RAIPUR: The Chhattisgarh junior girls hockey team entered the semi-finals for the first time after defeating hosts Odisha 4-2 in a shootout on Wednesday.

The 13th Hockey India Junior Girls National Championship is being organized by Hockey India till July 7th at Rourkela, Odisha.

 

Chhattisgarh defeated title contenders host Odisha by 2-4 goals in a shootout in a thrilling match.

Chhattisgarh's team was playing attack innings when in the first minute of the match Geeta Yadav scored two consecutive goals to lead against Odisha.


Odisha came back with one goal each from Pratibha Ekka and Surekha Barla to equalize by 2-2.


Chhattisgarh team's Monika Tirkey scored a goal in the 34th minute to take a 3-goal lead against 2. But Asima Raut of Odisha scored a goal in the 37th minute to make it 3-3.


The match was decided by penalty shootout in which the Chhattisgarh team defeated the host Odisha by 4 goals against 2.
