CG NEWS: Counting of votes is the last stage, role of observers is vitale: CEO

RAIPUR,CG: Chief Electoral Officer, Chhattisgarh Reena Babasaheb Kangale on Tuesday said the role of counting observer is very important during the counting of votes. Counting of votes is the last stage of the entire election process. Therefore everyone's eyes are focused on the process.

She was addressing the training program of counting observers organized at the New Rest house in Raipur.

She said the training of counting observers is to ensure that they during the counting should have detailed knowledge of all aspects of counting. In order for the counting process to be completed in a transparent manner at the counting centre, the counting observer should be impartial and loaded with information related to all the processes.

56 officers of Chhattisgarh have been assigned the responsibility of counting observers in various constituencies of the country by the Election Commission of India for the counting of votes to be held on June 4 under the Lok Sabha General Election-2024.

These include 20 officers of the Indian Administrative Service and 36 officers of the State Administrative Service.

During the training, Master Trainer U.S. Aggarwal, Vinay Aggarwal and Rupesh Kumar Verma gave detailed information on all the points related to the role of observers at the counting venue, counting of ETPBS and postal ballots and counting of votes through EVMs.

Master trainers discussed how many tables are to be installed in the counting hall, how the tables are to be installed, how many candidates, their authorized representatives and counting agents will be there and at which places they will sit, which table should be set for counting of VVPAT, details of postal ballots. Information was also shared on many important topics like where the counting should take place, what precautions need to be taken.

Additional Chief Electoral Officer Nileshkumar Mahadev Kshirsagar and senior officials of the Chief Electoral Officer's office were present.
