CG NEWS: Jewellery shop owner robbed of INR 1.5 lakh

Raipur/Bilaspur: In a shocking incident in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, a jewelry merchant was robbed with his bag filled with gold and silver worth Rs 1.5 Lakh.

The merchant had just arrived at his shop to open it for the day. He placed the bag on his motorcycle and began cleaning the area in front of his shop. Seizing the opportunity, the thief grabbed the bag and fled. The incident took place in the Sarkanda police station area.

Jawahar Prasad Soni (62), a resident of Imlipara, owns Maa Bhavani Jewelers Baloda in Ashok Nagar, Sarkanda. According to reports, the bag contained 8 kilograms of silver and 80 grams of gold, with an estimated market value of around INR 1.5 lakh. The entire incident was captured on CCTV.

Soni explained that he usually takes the jewelry home every night in a bag and brings it back to the shop each morning. As usual, he arrived at his shop on his motorcycle with the bag. Noticing some dirt in front of the shop, he began cleaning and placed the bag on the motorcycle's fuel tank. At that moment, a young man appeared, grabbed the bag filled with jewelry, and ran off.

He was unaware of the theft until he turned around and saw that the bag was missing. He immediately reported the incident to the police. The police arrived at the scene and reviewed the nearby CCTV footage.

During their investigation, the police found CCTV footage showing a young man fleeing with the bag. The police suspect that the thief had accomplices who were likely waiting nearby on a motorcycle.
