CG NEWS: 63 yr-old women undergoes complex heart operation

RAIPUR,CG: A 63-year-old woman was given a new life by undergoing a complex heart operation in the Heart, Chest and Vascular Surgery Department of the Advanced Cardiac Institute located at Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Memorial Hospital, Raipur.

Dr Krishnakant Sahu stated that the woman had arrived for check up with chest pain and shortness of breath for six months. Angiography and echocardiography revealed that there was 95 percent blockage in the coronary artery of the patient's heart and there was leakage in the mitral valve and tricuspid valve. It had reduced the pumping power of the patient’s heart.

Dr Sahu suggested to undergo coronary bypass surgery and valve transplantation. Though from Chhattisgarh, the patient resides at Satna district of Madhya Pradesh and holds the Ayushman card of MP. The problem was resolved and free treatment was provided.

The first operation was coronary bypass of the patient’s beating heart (beating heart coronary bypass) using the left internal mammary artery (LIMA).  After it, the patient underwent open heart surgery and the defective mitral valve was replaced with a titanium artificial valve ( Mechanical Valve) and the tricuspid valve was repaired by installing a tricuspid ring. The patient was discharged from the hospital after 10 days.
