CG NEWS: Stock up on all essential supplies in hard-to-reach areas

RAIPUR,CG: Additional Chief Secretary, Forest and Climate Change Department, Richa Sharma on Wednesday asked the concerned department to collect food items, salt, kerosene, lifesaving medicines, and formation of medical teams in flood affected areas and other essential materials in inaccessible areas.

She was chairing a meeting of the high level flood control committee constituted to deal with the natural calamities of Chhattisgarh at Mantralaya Mahanadi Bhawan.

A detailed discussion was held regarding the actions and preparations taken by various departments during the flood, including the arrangement of relief camps.

She said dilapidated buildings in urban areas should be continuously monitored. Arrangements should also be made to temporarily relocate the people living in these buildings to other safe places. In such districts where big rivers flow, the water level should be regularly monitored.

Similarly, by setting up control rooms on big reservoirs, water level information should be made available to the government from time to time.  Weakened bridges and buildings in the state should be identified and repaired. Besides, it has been asked to make arrangements for information boards and barriers etc. at accident prone places during floods.

Officials of the State and Disaster Management Department said rainfall information is being compiled in all the districts. Apart from this, the flood control room can also be contacted on telephone 0771-2221242.

The Public Health Engineering Department has been asked to ensure cleanliness around drinking water sources during the rainy season and to arrange bleaching powder there.

It was asked to repair the equipment related to flood protection and to immediately give information about the districts where motorboats are available to the Relief Disaster Control Office. City army and civil defense officials have been asked to take necessary action. Officials of the Urban Administration and Development Department have been asked to regularly clean drains in urban areas during the rainy season.
