CG NEWS: Fit radio collar on tiger: Expert

RAIPUR,CG: Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (VP) and Wildlife Warden, IFS (Retd) R. Srinivas Murthy on Friday suggested putting a ‘radio collar’ on the lone tiger found in Barnawapara Sanctuary of Chhattisgarh.

The tiger was first detected on March 7 this year.

Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (V.P.) and Wildlife Warden Sudhir Kumar Aggarwal reviewed the work of tiger protection and monitoring.

On the special request, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (VP) and Wildlife Warden, IFS (Retd) R. Srinivas Murthy inspected the Barnawapara Sanctuary for the protection of the tiger.

He discussed the monitoring and protection of lone tigers currently roaming in Barnawapara Sanctuary and border forest areas with state forest officials.

Murthy, after taking a detailed tour of the tiger roaming area, suggested fitting a “radio collar” as an upcoming action plan.

The Barnawapara Sanctuary and surrounding forest areas are suitable for tiger habitat and there is sufficient prey base and water body (drinking water place).

Murthy imparted training for tiger monitoring to all the staff of Barnawapara Sanctuary, Balodabazar, Devpur and Baldakchar area.

R. Srinivas Murthy is a renowned tiger conservation expert and retired IFS officer who was the Field Director of Panna Tiger Reserve. Srinivas remained the Field Director of Panna Tiger Reserve continuously from 2009 to 2015 and the number of tigers was increased from 0 to 32. At present there are about 90 tigers in Panna Tiger Reserve.
