Chhattisgarh Commission launches study on Backward Classes

RAIPUR,CG: In a significant move for the welfare of backward classes, the Chhattisgarh Backward Classes Welfare Commission (CGBCWC) has initiated a comprehensive study to assess the economic, social, educational, and political participation of backward communities in the state.

The survey, which commenced on August 12, 2024, is being conducted under the leadership of Commission Chairman R.S. Vishwakarma. Researchers interested in conducting studies related to caste groups included in the backward classes can submit their applications to the Commission until September 30.

The CGBCWC, established by the Chhattisgarh government, was officially notified in the state Gazette on June 27, 2020. The Commission oversees 87 caste groups classified under Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in the state, with the complete list available on the Commission's website.

The Commission's members, including Nilambar Nayak, Harishankar Yadav, Yashwant Verma, Krishna Gupta, and Shailendri Parganiha, recently convened a meeting to outline the scope of the study. The focus will be on the current social, educational, and economic conditions of backward classes, as well as their participation in government schemes and structures.

The study will also evaluate the facilities provided to backward class students in educational institutions, assess employment opportunities for backward class youth, and review the effectiveness of skill development programs. The Commission aims to provide comprehensive recommendations for the social, educational, and economic advancement of these communities.

Additionally, the study will address the representation and reservation of OBCs in three-tier Panchayat and civic body elections. The final report will be submitted to the state government, offering insights and suggestions to enhance the welfare of backward classes in Chhattisgarh.
