Concern over image: Regular Patwari Transfers

* CM calls for sprucing revenue department’s image

RAIPUR,CG,INDIA: During a comprehensive review of the Revenue Department's work, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai emphasized that the Revenue Department, being directly connected to the common man, must work to improve its image. Revenue Minister Tankaram Verma was also present.

He shared an anecdote from 1990, when a man who had been seeking resolution for a revenue issue since 1964 approached him. Sai recounted how he personally took the man to the SDM office and helped resolve his long-standing case, using the story to highlight the need for systemic improvements in the revenue staff’s functioning.

Sai stressed the importance of transferring Patwaris who remain in one place for too long, proposing a system where they are moved to different areas after a set time period. He noted that Patwaris play a vital role in assisting citizens with their everyday government-related tasks and directed that they must be present at their designated headquarters.

He also asked officials to expedite the process of transferring land belonging to various government offices to state ownership through a focused campaign. Additionally, he urged the speedy distribution of urban pattas.

The Chief Minister called for quicker resolution of revenue cases, including transfers, partitions, and undisputed transfers, ensuring that these processes are completed within set deadlines. He also highlighted the need for the Revenue Department to adopt digital innovations to enhance citizen services.

Revenue Department Secretary Avinash Champawat briefed the Chief Minister on the department’s schemes, activities, and requirements, providing updates on key areas such as the ownership scheme, relief work, revenue courts, geo-referencing, and the digital crop survey.
