CG: Grooms prioritize democracy over wedding rituals

Khairagarh/Bemetara/Mahasamud: In a remarkable display of civic responsibility, two grooms in Khairagarh set a unique example during the Chuikhadan Panchayat elections by taking time out of their wedding preparations to cast their votes on Monday.

Rakesh Kumar Yadav, a resident of Kritbas village, and Pawan Patel from Gram Panchayat Urtuli both ensured they voted before proceeding with their wedding ceremonies.

Rakesh, whose wedding procession was scheduled for Monday, made it a point to vote at polling station number 78 before his festivities began. Meanwhile, Pawan Patel, whose wedding is set for February 18, chose to vote first despite being in the midst of the turmeric-oil rituals, reaching polling station number 174.

In another heartwarming scene, Tejram Chakradhari from Tila village in Abhanpur, dressed in his wedding attire, including a sherwani and garland, arrived at the polling station to fulfill his democratic duty before celebrating his big day.

Similaryl, eighteen-year-old Ratna Sahu from Mau Khamharia in Bemetara district cast her first vote on Monday, marking a significant and memorable moment in her life.

Expressing her excitement, Ratna shared her thoughts on the experience, saying, “I am very happy to be voting for the first time. It is a proud moment for me, and I urge all young people to fulfill their democratic duty and vote.”

A remarkable example of dedication to democracy was also seen in the village of Ughara, where 98-year-old Thanwar Sahu exercised his right to vote at polling station number 222 in the Government Primary School. Despite his advanced age, he made his way to the polling station, demonstrating that voting is a responsibility that transcends age or physical limitations.
