RAIPUR/MUMBAI(INDIA): Chhattisgarh has taken a significant step toward becoming a major textile hub with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Clothing Manufacturers Association of India (CMAI) on Wednesday at Mumbai. The agreement, signed during the CMAI FAB Show 2025 in Mumbai, aims to boost the state’s textile and apparel sector, encouraging investments and generating employment.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai attended the event and invited textile entrepreneurs to set up industries in Chhattisgarh. He highlighted the state’s investor-friendly policies and growing infrastructure. The MoU includes plans to establish a Textile and Apparel Facilitation Centre in Raipur, which is expected to play a key role in supporting industry growth.
The Chief Minister also noted the recent approval for a National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) campus in Nava Raipur, with an investment of ₹271 crore. The institution will focus on skill development and promote innovation in textile design, helping to strengthen the industry ecosystem.
Chhattisgarh’s traditional textiles, especially kosa silk from Bastar and Surguja, were also emphasized. The CM said these products have high potential and will benefit from better branding and market reach through institutional support from CMAI and NIFT.
He added that industrial growth, particularly in the textile sector, is central to the state's development strategy. Since launching its new industrial policy, Chhattisgarh has attracted investments across sectors, from MSMEs to high-tech industries. Over 350 reforms have been implemented to improve the business environment.
The textile sector, the CM said, is directly linked to rural employment, technology, and skills. The state’s policies support MSMEs, offer special grants for large employment-generating units, and provide significant reimbursement benefits. Additional incentives are in place for industries in tribal areas like Bastar and Surguja.
Chhattisgarh also offers strong infrastructure, including surplus water and electricity, good connectivity, and logistics support via Raipur Airport and major expressways and rail projects. The CM also pointed to the availability of skilled workers, thanks to advanced courses in ITIs and top institutions like IIT, IIM, and IIIT.
Inviting entrepreneurs to invest, the CM assured full government support to ensure success for businesses in the state. He also visited Chhattisgarh’s pavilion at the FAB Show, emphasizing plans to integrate traditional handicrafts with the growing textile sector.
