RAIPUR: Chhattisgarh Softball women’s team won bronze and men’s team won silver in the National Games on Tuesday. The state’s total medal count is 13.
Women’s team coach O P Sharma said that Chhattisgarh women’s team was leading by 1-0 till the third inning. But last time winners Kerala in the last two innings beat Chhattisgarh by 2-1. State has to be content with a bronze medal.
Men’s coach Amit Varu said that the team clashed with Maharashtra in the semi-final and was beaten by Chhattisgarh by 8-0 runs. Maharashtra, last winner and being top in the pool, the team after beating Andhra Pradesh clashed with Chhattisgarh in the final match.
Both teams were in a draw situation till the third innings. In the fourth inning Maharashtra was leading by 1-0 runs. Chhattisgarh players could not score, thus lost 1-0 in the fifth inning. The team claimed the silver medal.
Deputy Chef de Mission Rupendra Chouhan said that Chhattisgarh softball team will return on October 13 after the closing ceremony of National Games on Wednesday (October 12).
Chhattisgarh has won two gold, five silver and six bronze medals in the National Games.
