RAIPUR, CG (INDIA): The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Raipur observed Eye Donation Fortnight 2025 with a series of impactful initiatives that combined awareness, community outreach, and heartfelt tributes to families of eye donors. The observance highlighted the urgent need for eye donation to fight corneal blindness and reaffirmed AIIMS Raipur’s commitment to public health and service to society.
The campaign opened with slogan and poster competitions for students and staff, inspiring creative expressions on the transformative gift of sight. A special radio programme, hosted by Dr. Vijaya Sahu, amplified the message to the wider public and emphasized the importance of pledging eyes for vision restoration.
A solemn donor family felicitation ceremony was also organized, where families of individuals who had pledged and donated their eyes were honored. The event, graced by Lt. Gen. Ashok Jindal (Retd) and other dignitaries, witnessed moving moments as tokens of appreciation were presented, reflecting the spirit of selfless contribution and the enduring value of giving sight to others.
The fortnight culminated in a public awareness march at Marine Drive, Telibandha. Faculty members, residents, nursing staff, students, and employees of AIIMS Raipur participated with banners and slogans, drawing significant public attention and successfully spreading the message of eye donation across the community.
The programme was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Renu Rajguru, Medical Superintendent; Dr. Vijaya Sahu, Nodal Officer, Eye Bank; and Dr. Lubna Khan, Head of Ophthalmology.
Through these initiatives, AIIMS Raipur not only honored the noble act of donors and their families but also strengthened the movement for eye donation, urging society to embrace the cause as a step towards eliminating avoidable blindness in India.
