CG NEWS: Basic Life Support, Academic Cardiac Life Support workshop concludes

RAIPUR,CG: The four-day workshop on Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support organized by the Anesthesia and Pain Management Department of Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru Memorial Medical College and Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Memorial Hospital, Raipur concludes on Monday.

The training in these courses, conducted and certified by the American Heart Association, helps in saving the life of the patient in case of an emergency like cardiac arrest. Basic life support is the first response to a life-threatening emergency, while advanced cardiac life support is supportive medical care used by medical personnel and doctors while the patient continues to be treated in the hospital.

Course Coordinator Dr. Pratibha Jain Shah said that before the conclusion of the workshop, the residents were given a group exercise by forming teams one by one at the Mega Code Skill Station. By creating a real case scenario, practice was conducted regarding the protocols to be followed before and after cardiac arrest. After that, written and practical examinations of all the trainees were taken.

Course instructor Dr. Shivam Patel said that only those students who score 84 percent in the examination are passed. The test is kept so difficult so that the health workers treating cardiac arrest and critical patients can perform the treatment perfectly. The workshop concluded by distributing certificates to the participants. Dr. Janak Khamboljha and Dr. Paltiyal from Gujarat joined the workshop specifically to impart training.
