RAIPUR, CG (INDIA): On the occasion of World Suicide Prevention Day (10 September 2025), a special guest lecture was organized by the Department of Psychology, Mats University. The chief guest of the program was Dr. Jagdish Sonkar, (IAS and Managing Director, National Health Mission, Chhattisgarh). In the lecture, Dr. Sonkar shared three motivational stories on suicide. Through these stories, he made it clear that suicide is not a solution to any problem. The real meaning of life is to face problems and move forward.
He also told that we have got the blessing of human life and we should respect it in every situation. Life is an opportunity and instead of destroying it, there is a need to move forward with understanding, patience and positive thinking. Dr. Sonkar gave the message to the students that no matter how adverse the circumstances are their solution can always be found in life, not in death.
On this occasion, Prof. (Dr.) K. P. Yadav (Vice Chancellor, Mats University) was also present. He presented the latest statistics highlighting the suicide situation in India and the need for awareness to stop this increasing trend among the youth. At the end of the program, everyone took an oath that we will make life strong and we will prosper despite the circumstances.
On this occasion, the winners of the inter-department poster making competition held on 9 September were also honored. Dr. Jagdish Sonkar himself did the work of distributing prizes and appreciated the creativity and sensitivity of the students.
The Head of the Department of Psychology, Prof. (Dr.) Shaista Ansari presented the outline of the program and welcomed all the guests and students. Faculty members and students of the department were present in large numbers.
Apart from this, the Chancellor of the University, Gajraj Pagariya, Registrar Gokulanand Panda and Director General Priyesh Pagariya conveyed their good wishes to the students and inspired them to move forward with determination and hard work.
