Teachers shape each era’s development: Speaker

RAIPUR,CG: Chhattisgarh Assembly Speaker Dr. Raman Singh on Thursday emphasized the vital role of education, stating that it dispels the darkness of ignorance, and teachers, revered as idols, guide every era toward progress.

He was addressing the Mukhyamantri Shiksha Gaurav Alankaran Samaroh as the chief guest. The event was held at Padmashree Govindram Nirmalkar Auditorium, Rajnandgaon.

Singh highlighted that September 5th is celebrated as Teachers' Day in honour of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, who contributed significantly to educational institutions as both a teacher and administrator. Dr. Radhakrishnan prioritized technical knowledge, skill acquisition, and advocated for the inclusion of women in education.

He cited examples from history, such as Lord Rama receiving his education in Guru Vashishtha's ashram, and Lord Krishna, who imparted the knowledge of the Gita after being educated by Rishi Sandipani. Teachers, according to Dr. Singh, are the true shapers of each era. He further mentioned how Chanakya, through education, changed the course of India by guiding Chandragupta Maurya, and how Guru Dronacharya’s teachings in archery to Arjuna have become timeless lessons in determination and focus. Swami Vivekananda’s life was deeply influenced by his guru, Sri Ramakrishna Paramhans.

Dr. Singh also paid tribute to Pandit Ravi Shankar Shukla from Chhattisgarh, who served as a teacher, noting the region's rich tradition of teachers. He mentioned great literary figures from the district like Dr. Padumlal Punnalal Bakshi, Dr. Gajanan Madhav Muktibodh, and Dr. Baldev Prasad Mishra, who made significant contributions as educators at Digvijay Mahavidyalaya.

During the event, Dr. Raman Singh honored 30 teachers from the district with the Gyandeep and Shikshadoot Awards. District Education Officer Abhay Jaiswal also addressed the gathering.
