Chhattisgarh for noose on online gambling

RAIPUR: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Saturday called for taking stringent steps and draft legal provisions to control online gambling. In a missive to state Director General of Police Ashok Juneja, Chief Minister said gambling and betting are becoming a social menace in the state. There is an urgent need to act to curb it. Baghel underlined that there is a need to bring a foolproof law to curb online gambling. He said, “Online gambling has become one of the fastest growing sectors today. However, due to the lack of any legal provision and clear course of action, it cannot be effectively controlled. Taking a step ahead, the government will now draft necessary legal provisions and procedures to curb online gambling and betting.” As there is no legal framework, a draft legal provisions and procedures for curbing various forms and platforms of gambling and betting should be prepared, he said. The Government of Chhattisgarh had been taking proactive steps to curb gambling and betting across the state. The action is initiated on a regular basis. But, with regular action on the ground, the people have started to use online platforms for gambling and betting to avoid any legal action, an official communication said.
