Fencing team clinches bronze in final event

RAIPUR: The Chhattisgarh’s Fencing team clinched one more medal, bronze to take their tally to four at 36th National Games-2022 underway at Gandhinagar, Gujarat on Tuesday. Fencing team won the championship in ‘Sabre’ event, taking the tally of medals to four (two silver, two bronze).

Team manager Akhilesh Dubey stated that the players Reshu Sahu, Gaurav Chaudhary, Jub raj Singh, and S. Viju defeated Haryana 45-44 in the last minute struggle in the quarter-final match. The team lost the match by 30-45 in the semi-final to the Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) team, which was more skilled. Saber team's head coach Praveen Kumar Ganware, V.Johnson Solomon and Anoop Chaudhary said the fencing team has performed well in this National Games.

They said the success has been achieved due to the hard work put on in the last month before the start of the event. But still the team needs more resources to train better. State Sports Minister Umesh Patel and Chef de Mission Atul Shukla congratulated the team for the achievement. Chhattisgarh now has a medal tally of three silvers (two fencing and one staking), one gold (skating) and two bronze (fencing).
