RAIPUR,CG,INDIA: The Election Commission of India (ECI) successfully concluded a one-day orientation programme for Media Nodal Officers, Social Media Nodal Officers, and District Public Relations Officers (PROs) at the India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management (IIIDEM), New Delhi.
The programme focused on strengthening coordination and preparedness among election officials in the rapidly evolving media environment. Media officers from 28 states and 8 union territories participated in the orientation, which aimed to equip them with strategies for effective communication, countering misinformation, and promoting voter awareness through various media platforms. The training was conducted in alignment with the provisions of the Representation of the People Acts of 1950 and 1951, the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960, and the Conduct of Elections Rules, 1961, along with the latest directives from the Election Commission.
Addressing the participants, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar highlighted the crucial role of media as a key stakeholder in the electoral process. He stressed the need for factual, timely, and transparent communication to maintain public trust in the election system in an increasingly digital and information-driven world.
He urged media officers to be proactive in disseminating accurate information and to help voters distinguish between verified facts and misleading narratives.
The orientation was held alongside the commencement of a two-day national training programme for 2 District Election Officers (DEOs), 12 Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), and 217 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) from West Bengal, as part of the Commission’s capacity-building plan initiated during the CEO’s Conference held at IIIDEM.
