Voting in seven LS in Chhattisgarh today

RAIPUR,CG: The polling for seven Lok Sabha Constituencies in Chhattisgarh will be held on May 7 from 7.00 am till 6.00 pm. The seats which are going for polls are Raipur, Bilaspur, Korba, Durg, Raigarh, Surguja, and Janjgir-Champa.

Chief Electoral Officer, Chhattisgarh Reena Babasaheb Kangale briefing media on Monday said all the preparations have been completed for the third phase of Lok Sabha elections 2024 in the state.

Voting will be held from 7 am to 6 pm in 58 assembly constituencies of 7 Lok Sabha seats of Chhattisgarh. The total number of voters are 1,39,01,285. 69,33,121 male voters, 69,67,544 female voters and 620 third gender voters to exercise their franchise at 15,701 polling stations of seven Lok Sabha seats, she said.

The number of voters has increased by 9.34 percent compared to the previous phase. There are 11,87,470 new voters in the election, she added.

Kangale said May 7 has been declared a public holiday in the state. In view of the heat, additional arrangements for waiting halls have been made in the polling stations. Cooler has also been arranged. Pandals will be set up in polling stations. Arrangements for drinking water, lemonade and ORS solution will be made. Mitanins will also be present along with medical kits.

She adds, total 2809 Sangwari polling stations, will be managed by the female polling personnel, have been set up in the seven Lok Sabha seats. 58 polling stations will be managed by PwD polling personnel while 235 polling stations will be managed by the youth polling personnel. 306 Model polling stations have been set up spread over the seven Lok Sabha seats of the state. 

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Surguja Lok Sabha seat saw a turnout of 77.30%, Raigarh Lok Sabha seat recorded 77.78%, Janjgir-Champa Lok Sabha seat had 65.58%, Korba Lok Sabha seat witnessed 75.28%, Bilaspur Lok Sabha seat reported 64.36%, Durg Lok Sabha seat had 71.68%, and Raipur Lok Sabha seat recorded 66% turnout.

There is increase in 9.34 percent voters

Chief Electoral Officer, Chhattisgarh Reena Babasaheb Kangale said in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, there were a total 1,27,13,815 voters and now the total voters is 1,39,01,285 an increase of 9.34 per cent.

There are 3,98,416 voters, whose ages are between 18 and 19; 31,92,602 voters, whose ages are between 20 and 29 years; 1,29,481 PwD voters; 61,715 voters, whose age are above 85 years; 2174 voters, whose ages are over 100 years and 11,271 service voters. Gender ratio is 1000:1005. Average per polling booth voters are 885. 

In Surguja Lok Sabha constituency, 18,19,347 voters will exercise their franchise. 18,38,547 voters  in Raigarh Lok Sabha constituency and  20,56,047 voters in Janjgir-Champa Lok Sabha constituency.

16,18,864 voters will exercise their franchise in Korba Lok Sabha constituency, 21,02,687 voters will cast their votes in Bilaspur Lok Sabha seat and  20,90,414 voters  in Durg Lok Sabha constituency. 23,75,379 voters will exercise their franchise in Raipur Lok Sabha constituency. Gender ratio of voters is more than 1,000 in 29 assembly constituencies out of 58 assembly constituencies in seven Lok Sabha seats of the state.
