BILASPUR,INDIA: Swami Vivekananda Jayanti was celebrated as National Youth Day on January 12, 2025 in Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya (a Central University), accredited with an A++ grade by NAAC. The program was presided over by the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Professor Alok Kumar Chakrawal.
In his address, Prof. Alok Kumar Chakrawal highlighted that Swami Vivekananda is an inexhaustible source of inspiration for youth. He observed that invaders and Western ideologies have attempted to fragment India’s eternal traditions, culture, and philosophy of life. Western ideologies often focus on self-centeredness and lack the spirit of universal welfare. Swami Vivekananda revived the flowing spiritual essence of Indian spirituality, Sanatan traditions, and the intrinsic spirit of universal welfare.
Prof. Chakrawal stated that Swami Vivekananda illuminated the path of a balanced spiritual and practical lifestyle and brought the concept of practical Vedanta to the masses. He also propagated the Indian philosophy of "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam" (the world is one family) on Western soil.
The program began with the dignitaries lighting the ceremonial lamp, followed by floral tributes to the statue of Goddess Saraswati and a portrait of Swami Vivekananda. The university’s Tarang Band performed the Saraswati Vandana and the university Kulgeet. The guests were welcomed with saplings. The welcome address was delivered by the Dean of Student Welfare, Prof. Shailendra Kumar.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by the university registrar, Prof. A.S. Ranadive, and the program was anchored by Dr. Shweta Subramaniam. On this occasion, the winners of various speech and poster competitions were felicitated by the Vice Chancellor, who presented them with Swami Vivekananda's literature and certificates. The program was graced by the presence of deans of various faculties, heads of departments, teachers, and university officials.
