BEMETARA,INDIA: The increasing number of beggars in Bemetara city has become a growing concern, particularly near Signal Chowk and other key areas like Bhadrakali Temple, Market Chowk, Dakshinmukhi Hanuman Temple, and Chowpatty. Begging near vehicles at traffic stops has raised the risk of accidents and disrupted city traffic.
To tackle the issue, a two-day ‘Prayas’ campaign was launched under the guidance of Brijendra Kumar Shastri, President of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), and chaired by Nidhi Sharma, Secretary of DLSA, in collaboration with Superintendent of Police Ramkrishna Sahu. The campaign will run through January 18-19, 2025.
The initiative aims to provide rehabilitation and legal assistance to children and individuals engaged in begging. With the support of paralegal volunteers (Adhikar Mitra) and the police department, those in need will be informed about government welfare schemes and guided toward a better future.
