RAIPUR,INDIA: With the announcement of election dates, the Model Code of Conduct has come into effect, mandating political parties and candidates to adhere to the rules set by the State Election Commission, Chhattisgarh.
The code remains in force from the declaration of the election schedule until the announcement of results, ensuring free, fair, and well-organized elections.
As per the guidelines, candidates and parties are prohibited from exploiting religious, social, or ethnic sentiments for electoral gains. Places of worship, including temples, mosques, churches, and gurdwaras, must not be used for election campaigns. Personal attacks unrelated to a candidate’s public life and unverified allegations are strictly prohibited.
Criticism of political opponents should be based solely on policies, programs, past records, and work performance rather than unfounded accusations. Any attempt to influence voters through bribery, liquor distribution, or other inducements will be treated as a criminal offense under election laws. Publishing false statements or misleading information about a candidate’s character with the intent to impact the election outcome is also strictly forbidden.
All election materials, including posters, pamphlets, and circulars, must include the name and address of the printer and publisher. Campaigning on private property—such as putting up flags, posters, or writing slogans—requires the owner’s permission. The use of government or public buildings for campaign purposes is strictly prohibited. Additionally, parties and candidates must not remove or deface the campaign materials of their opponents.
The Election Commission has warned of strict action against any form of violence or violation of the Model Code of Conduct, ensuring a fair electoral process.
