BILASPUR,CG,INDIA: Eco Club of Bharat Mata Anglo Medium School Bilaspur of Chhattisgarh was honoured with “Climate Action Champion Award by United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in International Conference on Sustainable Education at the Indian Habitat Centre in national capital New Delhi.
The Eco Club was honoured for promoting a low carbon lifestyle.
The International Conference on Sustainable Education is being organized at the Indian Habitat Centre in New Delhi. The team of Bharat Mata English Medium School, Chhattisgarh, along with delegates from 28 countries are participating in the conference. In India, it is being organized by the United Nations Environment Programme, Ministry of Forests, Environment and Climate Change, MOBIUSU of the Government of India. The main objective of the conference is to link India's education system with the goals of sustainable development in future. To formulate policies by representatives from different countries so that climate literacy can be imparted to children.
The students of Eco Club of Bharat Mata Anglo Medium School, through their efforts, organised a Badlaav Campaign on the theme of adopting a low carbon lifestyle in the Eco Club schools running in the state and participated in making a total of 25,000 children climate literate.
Every Saturday, the children trained one of their friends on Bagless Day. Now this series is continuing. In this way, the students of Eco Club in the state are contributing to reducing carbon emissions.
The students set an excellent example by adopting a low carbon lifestyle and reducing 987 kg of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere.
For the effort of the Eco Club, the Green Flag of Climate Champion was awarded by UNFCCC United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, located in Bonn, Germany. This is the first school from India to be awarded the Green Flag by the United Nations. The school's Principal Father Saleen P, teachers Pa Nu Haldar, Poonam Singh, Himangi Haldar, Tavesa Day and Jason Matthews represented India on behalf of the school.
