RAIPUR,CG,BHARAT: A grand Chhattisgarh-level celebration of Tribal Pride Day, marking the birth anniversary of freedom fighter Birsa Munda, will be held on November 14 and 15 at the Science College campus in Raipur. Principal Secretary Sonmoni Borah, via video conferencing, has asked collectors, District Panchayat CEOs, and Assistant Commissioners of the Tribal Development Department across the state to ensure all necessary arrangements are made. Under the guidance of Tribal Development Minister Ramvichar Netam, this year's Tribal Pride Day is set to feature extensive programs state-wide.
Tribal Pride Day commemorates the contributions and sacrifices of tribal freedom fighters, aiming to inspire current and future generations with their legacy. Established by the Union Cabinet in 2021, November 15 has since been observed annually as Tribal Pride Day in honour of Birsa Munda’s birth anniversary.
To prepare for the extensive state-level event, Principal Secretary Borah has asked district officials to make thorough arrangements. This year’s celebration, organized by the Tribal Development Department in collaboration with the Tribal Research and Training Institute, centres on the theme "Social and Economic Development, Livelihood and Entrepreneurship, Art-Culture and Heritage, Education and Skill Development, Health and Lifestyle." The program will highlight 25 state schemes across 17 departments, all focused on protecting and promoting tribal interests.
A steering committee led by Principal Secretary Borah and a 17-member implementation committee, chaired by the Commissioner of Tribal Development, have been established to coordinate the event. With Chhattisgarh’s tribal population comprising 30.62% of the state according to the 2011 Census, and with 43 major tribes and 162 sub-castes, the event provides a platform to honor tribal heritage and achievements. Alongside district-level programs, large-scale events will also be organized at the state level, providing an opportunity to celebrate the legacy and protect the interests of Chhattisgarh’s tribal communities.
